Being me, at first I thought you were talking about using a webcam, which I immediately thought - won't work. But now that I'm aware its a digital camera, I think I might just work.
For me, I don't have a really good digial camera. I am perfectly find with debinding it - I have thrown my emotional attachment to the japanese manga years ago. Actually, if I ask my photo teacher, she can show me how to bind them again, with a hardcover too.
Of course, I wouldn't be here if I didn't have a question. I don't remember if you mentioned it, but how exactly are you suppose to place the manga down opened so that you can take pictures? ----------------------------- ==working on it==

How long did it take for you to invent this method? Indeed to preserve your rare/out of print stuff: the best way!!
I have however 1 idea, probably not related. Is it easy to bundle the wholes set in word and then make a pdf file from it, or is it to farfetched? Was thinking of doing that with some stuff I have lying around, after I use you cam-scanning method on it, so that I can put them in pdf and on a DVD ;)

Posted at Wed Sep 27, 2006 15:48:37 Edit post|Quote As somebody that did some cleaning, I must mention that this method has several drawbacks(or at least this implementation):
- the dynamic range of a camera is limited(from the pure white to the total black). In this case, not enough sensitivity in dark, badly illuminated areas(side of the page) is the cause of a loss of details.
- uneven brightness throughout the page. While in normal scanning the fold area has different brightness, in this case there are several such areas, this makes keeping slightly grey lines and light-grey tones intact during cleaning a really difficult issue. Toshiki uses them A LOT
